The Venus Stone

August 2, 2018

The diamond is known for its optical properties, especially brilliance. It is for this reason that diamonds are nicknamed the Venus Stone after the brightest object in the night sky, Venus. Did you know that a diamond is composed of carbon, the only Gemstone composed of a single element. It is only fitting that the purest of gemstones should be so closely associated with pure love. And just like the wearer, every Diamond is unique.

You remember the children’s song, “Twinkle, twinkle little star……….. like a Diamond in the sky!” The Romans actually thought that Diamonds where splinters from falling stars that they observed in the night sky. The funny thing is that Diamonds do have a cosmic origin. Diamonds are composed of pure carbon and carbon is literally star dust. All the carbon on earth was forged in the core of Red Giant Stars, billions of years before the earth was formed. The carbon under tremendous heat and pressure crystallized over long periods of time between 1 and 3 billion years ago. They say that “True Love is forever” and since Diamonds are recognized as the universal symbol of love, DeBeers famous slogan “a Diamond is forever” seems apropos, don’t you agree!
