The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) originated in 1918 with a small group of jewellers who opposed and fought for the repeal of the jewellery Excise Tax. Concern and interest in this common purpose resulted in membership growth, and in 1924, the CJA was incorporated as the national non-profit organization dedicated to the support and expansion of jewellery sales in Canada. Today, the CJA acts as a liaison with all levels of government to ensure fair and equitable treatment, promote awareness, understanding and desirability for Canadian jewellery products. Over a thousand members located in every region across Canada proudly display their membership decal with the CJA logo and slogan. An Executive Committee and Board of Directors, made up of enthusiastic and committed volunteers from all aspects of the trade, govern the CJA’s ethical standards. These standards are promoted through adherence to a Code of Ethics, and this, in turn, fosters business among members as well as consumer confidence. The CJA offers a range of jewellery education from entry-level retail sales to appraisal sciences. Your membership in the CJA helps to ensure that it remains strong and vibrant and secures the preservation of our industry’s future. |
