Government Relations

As the voice of the jewellery industry in Canada, part of the CJA’s mandate is to monitor government legislation as it pertains to the industry. Additionally, the CJA works to ensure that such legislation is informed by input from members of the industry. For example, in May 2, 2006 the Excise Tax, imposed 90 years ago to help fund the war, has finally been repealed.

Additionally, the CJA works with law enforcement and legislative bodies to ensure that the Canadian jewellery industry remains trustworthy and free from criminal influence.

Anti-money Laundering
The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) along with Jewellers Vigilance Canada (JVC) and other key associations met with government officials from the Department of Finance and FINTRAC to ensure that our opinions surrounding the proposed Anti-money Laundering Regulations are heard.
Government Relations: Excise Tax
The Canadian Jewellers Association (CJA) is pleased to announce that our industry is finally rid of the jewellery Excise Tax – once and for all – effective today, May 2, 2006.
